The story of Brian Banks is heart wrenching to say the least. Brian Banks was a 16-year-old line backer at Polytechnic in Long Beach, California.
Brian had a very promising football career, being recruited by USC, along with other top programs; when he was accused of kidnapping and rapping a 15-year-old classmate. There was no DNA evidence to convict Brian; the case was tried based on hearsay.
Brian Banks accepted the plea deal, which required him to serve 10 years in prison. Brian Banks would go onto serve 5 years in prison, along with 5 years probation.
The break in the case came, when Brian received a Facebook message, from his accuser; saying she lied about being kidnapped and rapped. Brian Banks now, 26-years-old has been exonerated of all charges. Brian has been making his way through the media, speaking about his story.
We must say, Brian appears to be an extremely positive person. Brian was asked several questions, about whether or not he harbors any ill feelings, towards his accuser. Brian responded by saying; he’s let go of the anger, in order to positively move forward. Brian’s ability to remain optimistic is incredible, and speaks volumes about his character.
We have to admit, while his story is unfair, Brian’s ability and willingness to move forward in great spirits, is an inspiration to us all. We should all definitely be inspired by Brian’s story.
It proves that while, many of us face life changing challenges; we too can over come those challenges, and get to a place of being free of those obstacles.
Brian now says that he wants to try out for the NFL. Given Brian’s positive spirit, we’re certain that we’ll be seeing Brian on the football field in the near future.
