It’s been well over a month since the senseless murder of Trayvon Martin in Sanford Florida. The entire world has chimed in to demand that George Zimmerman be arrested, for murdering Trayvon. Yet, he has not been arrested. People continue to offer their support to the family, all in the name of receiving justice for Trayvon.
The hip hop community has also been vocal and supportive, of this unfortunate matter. Artist like Diddy, Nas, Killer Mike, Bun B, Lloyd Banks, and Young Jeezy are a few of the many artist, who’ve used their power to help shed light on this tragedy.
This time around legendary hip hop group dead prez, legendary emcee/actor Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def, and emcee Mikeflo put together a song called “Made Me Die,” which features the instrumental to the Nas classic, “Made You Look.”
During the behind the scenes look at the video, Yasiin spoke about the importance of standing up in light of Trayvon’s murder.
Here’s what Yasiin had to say:
“In this country, you see a casual, systemic, indifference to black life,”
“At a certain point, you have to respond. It’s in your own self-interest. It’s not even like outstanding or courageous. It’s a survival issue—either we’re going to fix this or we’re just going to agree to be slaves. And that don’t honor nothing that we’ve ever been about…”
Very true and powerful statement Yasiin. We commend these fellas, and all of those artist who’ve used their skills and power to shed light on the murder of Trayvon Martin.
We encourage everyone to step up and do something to help bring justice to Trayvon Martin, and prevent this from continuing to happen in America.
